Craig Levein exposed the lack of preparation and understanding that goes into BBC Scotland Sport by telling Sportsound listeners that he wanted Nicola Sturgeon to resign!

No real justification was given but it came after the First Minister expressed her anger at the weekend scenes involving Ibrox fans and the complete failure of the club to take any responsibility for their own actions and in-actions.

On Sportsound you are expected to discuss and debate the topical issues but expressing a clear political viewpoint on a party leader is crossing an obvious line.

With experts of the calibre of Levein, Dick Foster and Derek Ferguson sharing their thoughts there is always a danger that they revert into the language of their private conversations.

I don’t want to get involved in this political situation, I just hope that she resigns basically.

Host Kenny MacIntyre immediately apologised for the comment.

Following the Summer of Love between the state broadcaster and Ann Budge it seems that Levein has been brought on board the pundits gravy train.

At Tynecastle he masterminded last season’s relegation, starting the season as manager then stepping down to Director of Football to exhaust his contract with the Jambos demoted to The Championship.

With Levein off the payroll Jim Jefferies has taken on an advisory role to manager Robbie Neilson.

It remains to be seen whether Levein remains on call to Radio Scotland.
