The Daily Mail has reported that Celtic have held talks with Roy Keane over their managerial vacancy.

It is more than a month since Neil Lennon resigned as manager with just a bland Question and Answer piece on the club website from Dermot Desmond to outline what Celtic are doing.

Within that timeframe Aberdeen have parted company with Derek McInnes with Stephen Glass brought in as the new boss and Scott Brown as part of the coaching team.

Keane finished his playing days with a brief stint at Celtic in 2006 and has rarely been far from the thoughts of the club hierarchy whenever a manager is being appointed.

Over the last few days most of the speculation over the Celtic job has centred on Keane with the Daily Record reporting:

Manchester United icon Roy Keane has reportedly held discussions with Celtic over their vacant managerial position. The 49-year-old appears keen on the Parkhead vacancy –  a job he turned down back in 2014 after Neil Lennon left the first time.

The Daily Mail state the can’t-miss Sky Sports pundit is one of a “number of candidates” in the frame to become the Celtic manager. Keane has emerged as the bookies favourite with the likes of former Sheffield United manager Chris Wilder and Manchester City youth coach Enzo Maresca also in the frame.

The story was written by Stephen McGowan who has a long track record of being very close to the action at Celtic.

Keane hasn’t managed a club since quitting Ipswich Town in January 2011, since then he has been assistant manager to Martin O’Neill at Ireland and Nottingham Forest and briefly with Paul Lambert at Aston Villa.
