Keith Jackson believes that Scott Brown has had his head turned by the prospect of being assistant manager to Steven Glass at Aberdeen.

The former Hibs and Newcastle midfielder is the favourite to replace Derek McInnes at Pittodrie, returning to Scotland after a stint coaching the Atalanta United u-23 side.

Jackson has charted Brown’s career since he was departing Hibs in 2007 with the final stages in an incredible career underway.

The midfielder will be 36 in June and has to decide whether to hang around to see what happens at Celtic or to make the break and gets hands-on in coaching.

In the Daily Record, Jackson claims:

The Celtic skipper does not have the luxury of knowing his place in the team can be taken for granted next season. In fact, Brown’s greatest fear is that he overstays his welcome and becomes a peripheral figure, hanging around on the edges of a club which he has led from the front for so long.

Brown’s head has been turned by the opportunity to join Stephen Glass at Aberdeen and not least because he will play as many games as he chooses to while fast-tracking the next stage of his career into a managerial position.

Put it this way, Glass must have balls of steel to want Brown as his assistant from day one in the job. Effectively, he will be appointing his own successor.

Should Glass go on to become a roaring success and move on elsewhere, then Brown will automatically have the choice of staying put as his replacement or joining him somewhere bigger and better.

Despite his advancing years Brown has still been a regular in the Celtic midfield, being involved in 25 SPFL matches and nine out of 10 European games.

With no sign of a new manager being announced the former Hibs midfielder is in the dark about where he’ll be playing his football next season.
