Jesse Marsch as committed his future to Celtic a day after BBC Scotland broadcast as interview in which the American could hardly have made a stronger pitch for a move to Scotland.

In an unexpected interview Marsch said that it was an honour to be linked with the Celtic vacancy and revealed how Celtic had helped him get started on his way to getting the UEFA Pro coaching licence.

The circumstances of the manager of the leading team in Austria speaking to a Scottish radio station are open to interpretation but it seems that RB Salzburg demanded some clarity today.

Speaking from Salzburg today, The Sun reports Marsch saying:

My work here is definitely not done, we have a lot of fun together. With the board and the group with Stephan [Reiter] and Christoph (Freund), with my coaching staff and the team.

You will see what the next steps are. What is important for the club and for me. My family is very happy in Salzburg. We have made many friends. It is not necessary to take a step. The most important thing is to concentrate on our work. We now have two months.

If it meant getting Marsch in as manager Celtic fans would be quite prepared to wait until the end of the domestic season for his appointment.

With Roy Keane, Steve Clarke and Chris Wilder linked with the job there hasn’t been much excitement created but that changed when Marsch’s name was introduced yesterday having previously been mentioned by Pat Bonner and John Collins.
