Albian Ajeti has been relegated to fourth choice striker at Celtic.

In August Celtic agreed a fee in the region of £5m to sign the striker from West Ham after a difficult season following his move from Basel.

Ajeti failed to start a single EPL match with Davie Moyes’ side but had an impressive pedigree at Basel where he had been a team-mate of Moi Elyounoussi.

After a promising start marked with goals coming off the bench the Swiss internationalist picked up a hamstring injury scoring against Hibs in September and hasn’t really recovered.

There was no surprise when he wasn’t named in the side for Sunday’s Glasgow derby but fans did comment when there was no place for Ajeti among nine substitutes.

Kennedy told the Daily Record:

We had so many fit players and everyone wanted to be involved. Three strikers on the bench for the game wasn’t quite right. I spoke to Albian and addressed it so there’s no drama. Every game is different. We needed a balance on the bench but it’s fine.

Moving to a new country during Lockdown isn’t an easy task, especially after almost a year out of action at West Ham following a big money transfer.

With Odsonne Edouard expected to leave this summer Celtic need to find a striker to take the place of the Frenchman.

Other players have taken time to settle after big money transfers but Ajeti needs to make a quick impact at Celtic or the club faces taking a massive hit on last summer’s biggest signing.

According to Soccerway Ajeti played 130 minutes last season for West Ham across nine matches. This season he has played 847 minutes over 19 games, an average of 44 minutes per game with six goals scored.
