Leigh Griffiths hopes of a place in Scotland’s European Championship squad is under new threat with Che Adams expected to be named in Steve Clarke’s squad for this month’s international triple-header.

Griffiths came off the bench to score in the penalty shoot-out win over Serbia in September and is a Tartan Army hero for his double against England in 2017.

This season he has only started eight matches for Celtic with the last of them coming on January 30 when he was substituted at half-time in the defeat from St Mirren.

With one goal in 2021 the signs aren’t looking hopeful for Griffiths but the same can be said for Oli McBurnie, Lyndon Dykes and Oli Burke who have had similar returns in front of goal.

The Daily Record reports:

On-form Che Adams has committed his international future to Scotland. The Southampton striker has agreed to pull on the dark blue after a series of positive discussions with national boss Steve Clarke.

And the 24-year-old looks set to be named in the squad later today, for the opening World Cup qualifiers against Austria, Israel and Faroe Islands. Adams has played for England at under-20 level but is eligible for Scotland via the grandparent rule.

The frontman has scored seven goals in the Premier League this season with three in his last three outings, against Sheffield United, Manchester City and Brighton.

Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala seem to have edged themselves ahead of Griffiths in the pecking order at Celtic with the former Hibs striker only managing 10 minutes of action against Dundee United since John Kennedy took over.
