Leo Hjelde scored his first ever senior goal to help Ross County to a vital 3-2 home win over Kilmarnock.

The points took the Dingwall side four points above bottom of the table with Hamilton Accies in second bottom spot, three adrift of County.

Hjelde went on loan to County during the January transfer window and quickly found himself pitched into a relegation dogfight under new boss John Hughes.

After sitting out the surprise win over Celtic he was in the centre of defence last week against St Mirren but found himself in the middle of a diving storm as the Paisley side took the points with a late penalty.

Midway through the first half Carl Tremarco picked up a knock with Hjelde sent on to play at left wing-back. Kyle Lafferty opened the scoring for Killie but seven minutes from the interval Billy McKay levelled the scores.

Two minutes after the break Hjelde found himself in space on the left side of the Killie box and demonstrated a sure touch to power his side in front with a low strike of his left foot.

McKay and Naismith scored their second goals of the game but with a goal and a win bonus the on loan 17-year-old Celtic defender will be well pleased with his performance and first goal in Scottish football.
