Sheffield Wednesday owner Dejphon Chansiri has spoken out about the Liam Shaw situation.

The midfielder is out of contract at the end of this season with Neil Lennon telling a conference with newspapers that he had been signed by Celtic.

Neither club has made any statement on the future of the player who would cost Celtic a Development Fee decided by UEFA.

Chansiri has just appointed Darren Moore as manager but it seems like a lot of Wednesday fans are concerned that a promising player that has come through the ranks will leave in the summer for a token fee.

Speaking to Yorkshire Live, Chansiri said:

I thought he was going to go to Celtic because of the agent talking to Celtic When he had a chance to play for the first team, he did quite well and we tried to keep him.

We talked to them quite a long time but they just asked to wait and we know why they asked to wait because maybe they try to find another club.

I heard from my people, they told me some fans say ‘why didn’t we try to sign him last year or before’. I believe no-one last year or before in the summer no-on talked about Luke Shaw. They just tried to talk about him when he is in the first XI and he is doing okay.

We tried to extend his contract but the agent asked to wait and wait. We knew something was wrong and it’s normal in football. When a player tries to be good, then they already try to find another club. It doesn’t mean Celtic looked after him a long time.

Shaw has made 16 appearances this season in central midfield for Wednesday, picking up two red cards including in his last appearance on 20 February away to Birmingham City.

New boss Moore will now decide whether to use a player who appears to have committed his future elsewhere. Last season Shaw spent a month on loan at Chesterfield.
