There was virtually no sympathy or regrets from Celtic fans at the announcement that Nicky Hammond was leaving his job as Head of Football Operations.

Over the course of three transfer windows the former West Brom recruitment chief brought very little quality to the club and leaves behind a very expensive legacy.

In the season that meant so much Hammond was trusted to bring in the players to secure a 10th successive title.

His exact remit and the role of Peter Lawwell will probably never come to light but Hammond’s name will forever be associated with Vasilis Barkas, Shane Duffy and Albian Ajeti. And the loss of 10-in-a-row.

That trio was supposed to be the spine of a title winning side but for whatever reasons it all went south with the SPFL Premiership virtually a lost cause before the first week in January was completed.

Hammond and Duffy will leave but Barkas, Ajeti and others will be left behind for a new manager to work with, failing that a Director of Football will have to try and get something from the duo who cost close to £10m last summer.

With Hammond and Lawwell about to depart it is hard to see Celtic adding any new players until the new look executive is installed with fans anxious to see a new approach after three disastrous windows with Hammond at the centre of the issues.
