Aberdeen have announced the appointment of Stephen Glass as their new manager- with Scott Brown heavily tipped to become his assistant.

The 44-year-old former Aberdeen, Newcastle and Hibs midfielder takes over from Derek McInnes just two weeks after the departure of the former St Johnstone boss was announced.

Brown was a team-mate of Glass at Easter Road, with his Celtic contract expiring in June he is free to move to Pittodrie or elsewhere.

The announcement from Aberdeen made no mention of backroom staff.

Celtic signed Brown from Hibs for £4m in 2007 with the midfielder going on to become one of the most decorated players in their history.

Under Ronny Deila he spent time on Match Day working with the Development Squad but Brendan Rodgers told him to give the first team his full energy.

With Neil Lennon gone the exit of Brown leaves another big vacancy to be filled with new CEO Dom McKay not scheduled to begin work until July 1.
