Stephen McGowan believes that ‘He might be Keane but Roy’s not the bhoy for Celtic’ in an opinion piece in today’s Daily Mail.

On Friday McGowan revealed that talks had been held with the former Sunderland and Ipswich boss, over more than a decade the one-time Celtic View reporter has been consistently closer to the thinking of the Celtic hierarchy than any other reporter.

According to today’s opinion piece Keane has twice turned Celtic down with the chemistry described as ‘like a bad experience on Tinder’.

It is well known that Keane turned Celtic down in 2014 before Ronny Deila got the job, the other occasion when he was offered the chance to manage the club is less well known. It is claimed in today’s piece that Keane joined Celtic as a player in 2006 as an act of spite on Gordon Strachan.

Online the overwhelming reaction of Celtic supporters to Keane has been negative. He makes for compulsive viewing on Sky Sports but most fans would prefer that he is kept at arm’s length.

A decade after stepping down as Ipswich manager Keane has had three stints as an assistant, twice to Martin O’Neill and once to Paul Lambert.

With his recent conversion to Social Media he’ll be aware that his appointment isn’t one that is going to excite Celtic supporters. In 2006 he lasted five months as a peripheral player having decided to spite Strachan- whether he would take that approach for a second time remains to be seen.

In July Peter Lawwell will no longer be calling the shots at Celtic, perhaps that could make the job much more appealing with a football department no longer managed by an accountant.
