It seems that the whole of football has been scraped for opinions on who should be the ext manager of Celtic.

Any remote connection to Celtic is viewed as a bonus as the club are swamped with suggestions over who should take over from Neil Lennon.

Although brought up in Cambuslang Stevie Evans has been down south for over 30 years and clearly lost touch with the feelings and ambitions of the Celtic support.

Being involved in the self-styled Greatest League in the world might tick every box for Sky Sports viewing figures but a connection to the EPL doesn’t rock the boat of Celtic fans.

Sharing his wisdom with The Sun, Evans explains:

Frank Lampard would be my choice. He’d inspire the proper side of Glasgow. Celtic need to appoint the highest profile manager. Rangers did that with Steven Gerrard, who’s doing a great job. He’s turned them around because he is an attraction. Players want to play for him.

Lampard would inspire by the way his teams are set up and also by the way he believes in young players which he demonstrated at Derby and Chelsea.

Plus he could do it by his presence alone, just like Gerrard. If Frank was announced as Celtic’s new boss, and supporters were allowed back in the stadium, there would be 60,000 fans welcoming him at Glasgow Airport.

Would Frank Lampard be a successful Celtic manager?

Yes, top player and showing great signs in management

Evans is currently managing Gillingham in League One and managed to get Scott Robertson on loan for the first half of the season.

Most Celtic fans want to see an ambitious appointment based on a solid managerial track record, not a playing career as part of the Golden Generation.

Lampard had one decent season taking Derby County into the Premiership Play Off where he signed Efe Ambrose and Graeme Shinnie.

With Chelsea under a transfer embargo they turned to Lampard, after 84 matches in charge he was sacked in January.
