Scotland’s World Cup qualification hopes are already hanging by a thread after tonight’s 1-1 draw away to Israel.

With just the group winners assured of going through Steve Clarke’s men have two points from two matches while group leaders Denmark have racked up full points from their opening two fixtures.

Callum McGregor was the only Celtic player in the starting XI but it was Israel who dominated the first half with just a 44th minute shot from Dor Peretz to show for their efforts.

Ryan Christie replaced Jack Hendry at the break as Clarke set out a more attack minded, 10 minutes into the second period that move paid off when Ryan Fraser equalised.

Scotland had the bulk of possession in the second half without really looking like getting the winning goal.

Clarke’s side should be fairly certain of full points at home to the Faroes on Wednesday but they will need to get a win away to Denmark or Austria to get into the shake up for qualification.
