Marian Shved is preparing to return to Celtic at the end of this season.

The winger is currently on loan at Belgian side Mechelen where he enjoyed a burst of form in January without fully establishing himself in the team.

Shved was famously signed in January 2019 with little input from Brendan Rodgers who left within a month of the transfer going through.

Under Neil Lennon the Ukrainian made three brief substitute appearances but with a major overhaul coming in the summer under a new manager there could be an opening for the 23-year-old.

The Sun reports Shved saying:

At the moment the situation is that I will have to return to Glasgow at the end of the season because I have a contract with Celtic.

What will happen next…I don’t know. Maybe I will stay at Mechelen, perhaps I will move to another club or maybe I will stay with Celtic.

The situation will have to be resolved within the next month or so. Celtic will have a new manager because they recently fired Neil Lennon but we don’t know yet who will take his place. Hopefully, I will know soon.

The important thing for me is whether I will play or not. It’s the same everywhere, no matter what club you are with. It’s difficult for me to say whether I would adapt better in Scotland now after my time in Belgium.

Shved had a brief spell with Seville as a teenager before returning to Karpaty Lviv where he caught the attention of Celtic’s scouting network.

After signing in January 2019 he returned to Karpaty on loan where his You Tube highlights impressed Celtic fans watching on from afar.

With two years left on his contract pre-season will be critical if he is to justify the £2m fee Celtic shelled out on his signing.
