Even by his own standards in what has been an unprecedented season it was an incredible argument although naturally there was no counter view as Steven Gerrard revealed the grounds for appealing a four match suspension handed to Nathan Patterson.

In mid-February the Murray Park starlet opted to ignore the Lockdown that Scotland was under to meet up with four team-mates and five Randoms at a House Party in the west end of Glasgow.

Police Scotland turned up; Fixed Penalties were handed out with young Patterson in a spot of bother.

A few months earlier Jordan Jones and George Edmundson had also got caught, 17 days after their Fixed Penalties they were given seven match bans by the SFA.

This time the SFA waited 44 days to announce the punishments, conveniently after the March Glasgow Derby was played which James Tavernier missed with a sore leg.

After being handed four match bans the Ibrox club informed the SFA that they were appealing the decision.

Following Sunday’s win over Cove Rangers Gerrard explained the grounds for the appeal. It seems that Patterson is the greatest emerging defender since Young McCrory and a four match ban will do irreversible damage to his career. Before Tav got a sore leg young Patterson hadn’t started a single SPFL match.

The SFA have still to announce a date for their appeal, it is expected to be held after the Scottish Cup tie with Celtic on April 17.
