John Kennedy expects to have Kris Ajer back in full training ahead of next Sunday’s match at Ibrox.

The Norwegian missed Wednesday’s draw with Aberdeen with Nir Bitton drafted in to play alongside Stephen Welsh.

Ajer has been the one constant in Celtic’s defence throughout this season but with his contract expiring in June 2022 Wednesday’s line up was possibly a glimpse into how Celtic might start next season.

Discussing Ajer’s absence with Radio Scotland ahead of the Aberdeen match, Glasgow Live reports Kennedy saying:

He’s ok. He hurt his shoulder during the game and managed to get through it. For a couple of days, he was a little tender so no need to risk him tonight. He’s played loads of games this season as well so it gives us a chance to bring Bitton into the team.

Celtic have three matches left before what is widely expected to be a massive turnover of players begins.

Last summer no-one left the club but since the turn of the year Hatem Abd Elhamed, Jeremie Frimpong and Patryk Klimala have moved elsewhere.

Four loan players will certainly return to their parent clubs, Scott Brown is Aberdeen-bound while Ajer, Odsonne Edouard, Ryan Christie and Olivier Ntcham enter the final year of their Celtic contracts.
