The Scottish Cup Final on May 22 could be played in front of fans as a Gateway Event.

Hampden Park was empty in December as Celtic won the trophy for the fourth year running but that could change next month with the Scottish Government committing to having fans inside Hampden for four matches during the European Championships.

Celtic do have at least one massive obstacle to make it to this season’s final with the Fourth Round draw taking them to Ibrox on April 17. The winners of that match will play St Johnstone or Clyde for a semi-final place.

No fans will be present at that match but Jason Leitch has revealed that the 13 month absence of supporters from matches in Glasgow is likely to end.

Last season Celtic beat St Mirren 5-0 on March 7 in front of over 50,000 fans but since then the stadium has been empty.

In pre-season there were crowds of 5,000 at Celtic’s pre-season friendlies in France, since then the only match with a ‘crowd’ was at Ross County in September when 300 fans were inside Victoria Park.
