Chris Sutton isn’t surprised that Celtic remain without a manager.

Last weekend there was a surge in speculation that Eddie Howe was about to take charge with the Scottish Cup draw apparently adding some urgency to the issue.

In midweek a representative of Howe poured cold water on hopes of an early appointment with most of the signs suggesting that John Kennedy will see the season out.

Fans have been left to read between the lines as various reports and suggestions emerge with little coming out of the club in the six weeks since Neil Lennon resigned.

Viewing the development of the last few days, Sutton told the Daily Record:

I don’t think much has changed over Eddie Howe despite some of the noise this week. He holds all the aces when it comes to the negotiations and Celtic will need to lump it if he’s the man they want.

A manager is never in a stronger position than when he comes in and it’s only right he will want everything to be in place to give him the best possible opportunity to be successful.

If Celtic need to wait until the summer, then so be it. The squad will be drastically different for next season anyway, so there perhaps isn’t too much to be gained by coming in now and assessing what he’s got.

With a massive overhaul of the squad expected in the summer it seems natural that the club look for an appointment sooner rather than later.

Howe left Bournemouth last August when their five year stay in the EPL ended in relegation. The 43-year-old has also been linked with Crystal Palace and Newcastle United despite both clubs having managers in place.
