The Daily Record has failed in their bid to have David Turnbull suspended for next Sunday’s Glasgow derby.
Following his yellow card against Aberdeen on Wednesday night the Glasgow based publisher suggested that the midfielder might be in line for a retrospective red card which would result in a two match ban.
The incident was viewed clearly by match referee Willie Collum and was the sort of incident that happens in every match.
If the SFA decided to take retrospective action they’d need to increase their pool of referees to sit in judgement.
As the SFA closed for business the Record reported:
Celtic will have David Turnbull available to face Rangers after the SFA decided NOT to take retrospective action against the midfielder.
The 21-year-old was involved in a tangle with Aberdeen rival Dylan McGeouch and was shown a yellow card by Willie Collum. But the Celtic man was left sweating over a potential ban of the kind that saw Alfredo Morelos banned earlier this season.
Under rule 13 of the SFA disciplinary code action can still be taken after a yellow card in the case of violent conduct, serious foul play and spitting “even where some part of the challenge… has been seen by one or more of the match officials”.
But Collum was right on the scene for the flashpoint with Turnbull with a clear view and the governing body has decided not to take action.
Is David Turnbull’s booking for Celtic the right decision or do the rules state it should have been red?https://t.co/wvYD5MjhUa pic.twitter.com/0TEeVFB9Cd

There was only one booking in Wednesday’s match at Pittodrie but for whatever motivations the Record tried their best to spice up the incident between Turnbull and Dylan McGeouch.
The 21-year-old has picked up four yellow cards this season over 37 appearances for Motherwell and Celtic.
