Two days after appealing against their four match suspensions Steven Gerrard has selected two of his Covidiots to start tonight’s Scottish Cup tie against Cove Rangers.

Seven weeks on from getting caught at a house party and issued with Fixed Penalties Nathan Patterson and Calvin Bassey are in the starting line-up for tonight’s match having evaded any punishment from the football authorities.

Back in August it took the SFA 18 days to postpone two Celtic matches and suspend Boli Bolingoli for failing to self-isolate after taking a quick trip to Spain. Celtic have yet to comment on the double standards.

After 44 days the SFA announced that Patterson, Bassey and three team-mates were to serve four match suspensions. On Friday an appeal was recorded on the SFA website. James Tavernier has a sore leg.

No date has been announced for the appeal such is the haphazard way that the SFA deal with matters involving the Ibrox club. With a likely match against Celtic on April 17/18 it is highly unlikely that the appeal will be heard before that date.

Peter Lawwell will stand down as Celtic CEO on June 30.
