Over the last seven years he has often been a fans’ favourite but like his contract it seems that support is running out on Leigh Griffiths.

Down the years he has seen off the arrival of umpteen strikers from Stefan Scepovic, Nadir Ciftci, Vakoun Bayo, Carlton Cole and Colin Kazim Richards.

In his mid-twenties Griffiths knew that his natural gifts would see him back in favour, he was far from a favourite of Ronny Deila but with 40 goals in season 2015/16 he saved the day.

Even when Brendan Rodgers had Moussa Dembele and Odsonne Edouard available Griffiths was still regularly called on, rarely as first choice but a reliable deputy.

Over the last three seasons however Griffiths has fallen from favour, the bursts of form have become rarer and rarer, the patience of coaches and fans has been stretched.

Last season there was a brilliant cameo lasting two months before Lockdown but this season, a vital one for the striker has seen things almost entirely broken.

He won’t go short of offers but it’s unlikely that he’ll be indulged to the same extent as he has over the last few seasons.

April 30 is D-Day, if Celtic don’t take up the option in the striker’s contract he’ll be a free agent ready to negotiate a new deal elsewhere.
