Ally McCoist has finally spoken out about his Scottish Cup agony after St Johnstone killed off his dreams of celebrating a double for Steven Gerrard’s side.

Cup upsets shouldn’t really be too much of a surprise for the cheeky chappie who guided his side to defeats from Falkirk, Queen of the South, Alloa and Raith Rovers during his time at Ibrox. Soon after being drawn against Celtic in the semi-final of the 2015 League Cup McCoist opted to walk away.

Last Sunday McCoist was picking up a fee for covering the Caribo Cup Final between Manchester City and Spurs which kicked off a few hours before the action from Ibrox.

Normally the former Question of Sport skipper is full of gags about the joys of life but this week he has been strangely silent, much like his good friend Kris Boyd.

Picking up on his appearance on TalkSPORT this morning, The Sun reports McCoist saying:

I’m telling you right now, I couldn’t believe my eyes, I couldn’t believe my eyes. I just got back in the hotel after the final at Wembley, I stuck it on just as Rangers scored on 118 minutes.

I thought ‘oh, ya beauty, that will do lovely’, I went to the toilet and heard a commotion from my iPad and I came back and they had equalised.

Sometimes it’s just written. And obviously as you can imagine, the pea has not finished rolling about in the referee’s whistle and big [Alan] Brazil is sending me all sorts of messages. He couldn’t get enough of it

McCoist was in charge of the old Rangers club for the disastrous defeats in 2012 from Malmo and Maribor which forced the club into liquidation.
