Gordon Strachan is a more informed pundit than most when it comes to matters Celtic.

Having managed the hoops from 2005 to 2009 he has contacts across the club that others can’t match including a son that has been sitting in the dug-out all season.

Strachan is a regular on Celtic TV but it was on Premier Sports two weeks ago that he dropped a hint that Eddie Howe as Neil Lennon’s successor wasn’t quite the done deal that many were assuming.

Asked about the situation the former Scotland manager mentioned that Celtic wouldn’t be putting all of their eggs in the one basket.

Since then a representative of Howe contacted Sky Sports to dampen down expectations. After two impressive home wins John Kennedy takes Celtic to Ibrox tomorrow where a win would obviously strengthen the case for him getting the job on a permanent basis.

Picking up on the Football Pass Podcast, The Sun reports Strachan saying:

It is a game that no matter where you are in life, Rangers or Celtic, it is the one thing that can buy you a bit of time, it is the one thing that gives you a wee bit of power as a manager.

The player gets the pride of winning but the manager somehow gets a bit more power from that result. If it is a result and a performance, then it is even more power.

With the question marks over who the manager is going to be It will add to John’s case, and he has a decent case to put forward I would imagine.

The four performances since he took over people might say there were a couple of draws in there, but you look at the performances and you look at the number of chances they have made. That would be John’s argument, that the team are making more chances.

John, there is no doubt about it, would like the job. Anybody who I’ve spoken to about the Celtic job has said it’s a job you must try if you ever get offered it. The longer the season goes on without any managerial clarity it might be stronger for John.

You have to remember Neil Lennon was appointed in the shower after a cup final. So I think John will be hoping for his shower in the cup final and will be keeping one eye on the door.

In five matches in charge Kennedy has won three, drawn two with a goal difference of 11-1.
