Billy Brown has moved to set the record straight over a legendary Leigh Griffiths incident.

The fiery young striker had already plundered goals for Livingston and Dundee but at Wolves things were proving trickier with a loan spell at Hibs agreed by Mick McCarthy.

As a life-long Hibs fan a move to Easter Road was ideal for the young Griff but with his passion defeats weren’t so easy to take.

During two loan spells he suffered the hurt of losing in successive Scottish Cup Finals but any defeat was more than a set back from Griffiths.

According to local ‘legend’ Hibs assistant Billy Brown was a casualty of the striker’s temperament, in a story that quickly gained arms and legs it was claimed that Griffiths knocked Brown out cold after one fiery training ground clash.

Various denials have been offered but the story doesn’t quite go away, in the Daily Record Brown gives his version of that infamous training session.

That was a load of rubbish! It was at a training session after a game which we must have lost and Pat was having a go at the players. Leigh bit back at Pat then stormed away.

So I went after him to bring him back but I only had training shoes on and the next thing I know I slipped on my backside. Everyone turned round and thought he’d knocked me out! There was nothing physical at all. Leigh has a temper on him but there was nothing in that. Afterwards I got on pretty well with him!

Griffiths has been tipped to return to Hibs next season but whether he would fit in with the scholarly, scientific approach of Jack Ross is another matter.
