Jack Ross has admitted he would be interested in signing Leigh Griffiths- if he becomes available this summer.

Celtic have an option to extend the striker’s contract by 12 months but must do that by April 30 otherwise he becomes a free agent.

Griffiths has one goal to his name in 2021 and one starting appearance since the end of January with Odsonne Edouard the clear first pick for the hoops.

Patryk Klimala is expected to join New York RB in the next few days leaving Celtic with three strikers- and Edouard looking certain to be sold this summer.

Griffiths spent two seasons on loan at Hibs earlier in his career but until Celtic make their decision on whether to retain him the speculation about his future will remain on hold.

Discussing the prospect of Griffiths returning to Hibs, Ross told The Sun:

First of all, he’s not a player who as of yet will be available. He’s still contracted to Celtic and there’s nothing to say he won’t be as things stand.

It is an easy connection to make because of his association with the club and his time at Hibs before.  But I would temper that by saying is he a player we have admiration for? Of course, because his goalscoring record is up there with the best in Scotland over recent years.

It may be something that should the opportunity arise, it would be something we’d discuss but it’s not something we have been able to discuss in any detail because he’s not a player, as of yet, who will be available.

Griffiths joined Celtic from Wolves in January 2014 and signed his most recent contract in September 2018 when Brendan Rodgers was manager.
