John Kennedy will give James Forrest until the last moment on Sunday to prove his fitness for Celtic’s Scottish Cup tie at Ibrox.

On Saturday the winger started his first SPFL match since September but after opening the scoring against Livingston he had to come off after 58 minutes.

That was the only downside to a 6-0 victory with Kennedy reporting a stiffness in the winger’s back and tightness in his hamstring when he was questioned after the match. Fortunately, Forrest was able to walk off having realised after making a pass that things weren’t right.

It’s not clear when the Interim Manager was speaking but in an interview with Celtic TV Kennedy said:

We are just going to monitor James as the week progresses, he’s probably the type of player that we will give right till the last minute.

We’ll see how it goes in the week, we’ll get the treatment into him and we’ll just progress that as best we can and make a decision nearer the game.

There are effectively two training days left before the Ibrox cup tie with Forrest able to get treatment for his injury.

It was an ankle injury in September that forced him to miss the bulk of the season but after two substitute appearances he scored against Falkirk and Livingston.
