John Kennedy has revealed that his meeting with Dom McKay last week was more of an introduction than fact finding mission.

The former SRU chief is shadowing Peter Lawwell ahead of taking over as CEO on July 1 and getting used to the different demands and dynamics of the round ball.

McKay could hardly have chosen a more turbulent time to arrive at Celtic with every aspect of the club open to criticism and under review.

Kennedy has been left to front things up with regular media conferences with his credentials being challenged on a match-by-match basis based on the form of players who have underperformed almost since the season got under way.

Player contracts are a major issue but into the mix the Interim Manager has had to deal with speculation that he could be a candidate to become Sporting Director to a new manager.

The Daily Record reports:

Kennedy has met with new CEO Dominic McKay for the first time, but added: “It was just an introduction. He came into the Training Ground and met all of the staff. We had a very casual conversation along with Peter (Lawwell). It was more of a greeting and an introduction. That’s all it was.”

Asked if his future was amongst conversation topics, he added: “No. It’s very much at the moment the club is ongoing on how they are looking at things. Who they are maybe having discussions with and how they are going to do things going forward?

“So, we haven’t had that discussion in terms of what is going to happen yet. It is very much about preparing the team, go into the games and do that on a weekly basis.

“We’re obviously reaching the end of the season now, so things will have to be decided pretty soon I’d imagine, but the club will be working on that behind the scenes.

“He (McKay) is obviously a young, hungry guy who sees this as a challenge and a good step for him. There’s a lot of work to be done, so he’ll have to get his teeth into that quickly.”
