Odsonne Edouard is the only Celtic player to make it into Kris Boyd’s SPFL Team of the Year.

Although Boyd is hardly an impartial judge with nine Ibrox stars in his team it says a lot about Celtic when most fans would agree that this has been the least productive of Edouard’s four seasons in Scotland.

Scoring 16 goals from 25 matches is as reasonable return but last season the Frenchman returned 22 from the same number of matches as Celtic won the title which was ended after 30 matches.

On the Sky Sports website Boyd explains:

There is no getting away from the fact Odsonne Edouard is the best striker in the league. I’d always have the top goal scorer in my team. What Alfredo Morelos does for Rangers is brilliant but if Edouard was in that team, Rangers would be beating teams 3-0 or 4-0 every week.

This season Edouard has often been the only Celtic striker available with Leigh Griffiths, Albian Ajeti and Patryk Klimala unavailable for a variety of reasons.

Moi Elyounoussi and Ryan Christie have been pushed into striking roles at different times without making the desired impact.

In all competitions Edouard has scored 21 goals but since a double away to St Johnstone on February 14 he has only found the net once- with a deflected effort at home to Aberdeen on February 27.
