‘Kennedy touched a nerve’ ‘Big Borna and his one medal’ ‘Kennedy has caught a few there’ Celtic fans lap up Ibrox anger

It was the sort of comment that almost every manager will make at some stage, if they don’t, they won’t survive long in the dressing room.

A week ahead of a trip to Ibrox John Kennedy told a group of Sunday newspapers that on any given day he felt that Celtic were capable of beating anyone in Scotland.

With 12 of the last 14 trophies contested for in Scotland won by Celtic it’s not hard to find the evidence to back up the claim.

Add some mischief and Chinese whispers to a Croatia however and it’s a different story entirely.

From mid-morning the ‘story’ caught fire. First of all it was the biggest joke that Borna Barisic had heard all season, soon after he was accusing the Celtic boss of being disrespectful.

By lunchtime the story was fed back to Kennedy who repeated what he had said a week ago.

Celtic go to Ibrox having won the Scottish Cup for four years running, something that no club has ever achieved before in the long history of the competition.

An away win on Sunday would be something very special to celebrate in a season that has fallen well short of expectations. It certainly seems that some inside Ibrox are feeling rather sensitive after being showered by praise from almost all angles.
