Michael Stewart would bring Leigh Griffiths, James Forrest and David Turnbull into the Scotland squad for the European Championships.
Griffiths and Forrest have been part of the squad that qualified but have been short of matches this season while Turnbull has still to earn his first call up.
Steve Clarke has the task of putting together his final squad with probably around 15 players fairly certain of their place.
Callum McGregor and Ryan Christie started matches in the latest batch of internationals and look fairly certain of their place but Stewart doesn’t see Greg Taylor surviving as third choice left-back.
There are no more competitive games until Scotland take on Croatia at Hampden with Stewart explaining his squad, which includes 12 past or present Celtic players in The Sun:
There would be disappointment for Kenny McLean, Andy Considine and Liam Palmer, that’s for sure. Greg Taylor, John Fleck, Lawrence Shankland and Oli McBurnie are others who failed to make the cut but I would find space for Celtic trio James Forrest, David Turnbull and Leigh Griffiths. Now is that harsh on the guys who would miss out? Absolutely.
Later Stewart adds:
I would have no qualms about leaving out McBurnie, either. Griffiths, for all his problems, is a goalscorer and that’s something we sorely need.
Let me be clear, I’m not talking about him starting. I’m talking about having him in the squad because who else would you want to throw on with 15 minutes left if you need a goal?
Griffiths hasn’t played a full 90 minutes for Celtic in over a year but retains a place in the hearts and emotions of many Scotland fans.
In 2017 he broke his international duck with two free kicks scored against England at Hampden, in November he came off the bench to score in the penalty shoot-out win over Serbia.
