Dave Cormack has moved to reassure Aberdeen fans over the signing of Scott Brown.

The midfielder will be 36 when he pulls on a red short but it’s not his age that has been bothering some Dons fans struggling to come to terms with the fact that an in-yer-face rival is switching sides.

Brown revelled in the stick and abuse he took on and off the park at Pittodrie down the years, picking up 23 Scottish medals so far in one of the most decorated careers in Scottish football.

Aberdeen fans have had one trophy win to celebrate in the last 25 years but it is an incident in 2014 that some Dons supporters are holding onto against the first signing made by Stephen Glass.

During a routine SPFL defeat at Celtic Park an incident occurred between Shay Logan and Ivan Tonev that only came to light in the days after the match.

After a long battle the SFA suspended the on-loan winger on the ‘balance of probability’ with bad blood built up between the players and clubs as they both rallied behind their man.

Picking up on a Reds TV interview with Cormack, the Daily Record reports the Dons chairman saying:

It’s important that you get the right person with the right values. Tonev was found guilty of abusing Shay and was rightly punished. We as a club stood up for Shay.

The only time Shay (Logan) thinks about it is when others bring it up. There’s no issue between Shay and Scott. Both are tough competitors on the field.

Rightly or wrongly, players invariably support what their team-mates say to them. That does not make them guilty of the crime their team-mate is punished for.

Earlier this week Logan went on loan to Hearts.
