Alan Nixon has tweeted that he is shocked that Celtic have not started talks with anyone else when asked for an update on whether Eddie Howe was on his way to becoming manager.

The Sun reporter is a master of the open ended tweet, shocked could be taken in two ways that the appointment is on track or that Celtic  should be looking at alternatives.

Nixon is well connected across English football, breaking the news a month ago that Roy Keane wanted to take on the Celtic job.

Howe seemed to be close to getting the Celtic job a fortnight ago when he was reported to have held face-to-face talks with Dermot Desmond and Dom McKay. That news built up some momentum with Richard Hughes suggested as Director of Football but the trail has gone cold since a representative of Howe told Sky Sports that he was unlikely to return to management before the summer.
