Mechelen are reported to be in discussions with Celtic over taking Marian Shved on loan for a further season.

One issue for the Belgian side will be negotiating with a club who are changing CEO, have an interim manager in place and recently lost their Head of Football Operations.

Shved was one of the disastrous signings of January 2019, when Brendan Rodgers was asked about the Ukrainian he was clearly a distant element of the recruitment process. A month later the Irishman left for Leicester City.

After three brief substitute appearances last season Celtic were happy to send Shved out on loan, at Mechelen he hit some form in January with a few goals but his involvement has dipped over the last month or so.

Looking at his prospects Belgian website HLN reports:

Shved wants to stay in Mechelen, they wants him to stay. Only problem- the financial picture. KV does not have the means to exercise the option – according to Scottish media it is 3 million pounds – but has started talks with parent club Celtic about an extended stay on a rental basis.

“Only a lot of change is underway at Celtic,” said coach Wouter Vrancken. “There will be a different trainer and technical director. The people we talked to are now gone. So wait and see. Marian has clearly indicated that he would like to be and stay here. I also think that’s best for him. He needs steadfastness.”

Since joining Celtic Shved has been out on loan at Karpaty Lviv and Mechelen, his contract runs until May 2023.
