News that a serious European Super League was breaking sent English football and Sky Sports into something of a frenzy yesterday afternoon.

For more than 20 years the broadcaster has been telling their subscribers that they are watching the best league in the world.

Yesterday news broke that Manchester United, Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea, Spurs and Manchester City felt that there was an even better league for them to take part in.

Three Spanish and three Italian teams agree with the plans released last night. It appears that there will be 15 lifelong members of the ‘Super League’ with five others invited, apparently on merit to fill up the numbers as the elite clubs monopolise the money of broadcasters and sponsors.

After one hour that tweet had attracted over 400 comments, been retweeted over 7,000 times and liked by over 28,000 Twitter users.

Some of the clubs mentioned certainly don’t know their history, for Celtic there are more immediate concerns than a European Super League.

The hoops have fallen way short in Europe in recent seasons but if the route to the very top of the game is cut off then sadly the game is no longer a game.
