Celtic fans were far from impressed by new that Aston Villa are preparing a £7m bid for David Turnbull.

The former Motherwell man was the one player generally exempted from criticism in the season just ended with his performances providing a beacon of hope.

Scott Brown has already left to join Aberdeen, with doubts over whether Ryan Christie, Olivier Ntcham and Tom Rogic will be around next season retaining Turnbull looks essential for the expected rebuild.

The other aspect causing concern is the reported £7m transfer fee. Two summers ago Celtic picked up £25m from Arsenal for Kieran Tierney with the London club likely to be able to double that fee if they were to sell the defender.

Turnbull hasn’t got close to the levels Tierney hit at Celtic but equally he’s worth a lot more than a third of the fee picked up from Arsenal. In January Celtic received a fee of £11m from Bayer Leverkusen for Jeremie Frimpong.

With a contract running until June 2024 Celtic appear in control of the situation but with no manager and Season Ticket renewals still to be announced the club are currently in a vulnerable position.

How should Celtic react to a £7m bid for David Turnbull from Aston Villa?
