Jim Spence has spoken out on the influences of anti-Catholic bigotry that curtailed his media career.
For over 20 years he had been the well-respected voice of BBC Scotland on Tayside, a Dundee United fan able to objectively cover, report and comment on events at either end of Tannadice Street with respect.
Events in Glasgow in 2012 put the spotlight on a number of issues, its fair to say that the Scottish media came out of it poorly.
Having initially declared Craig Whyte as their billionaire saviour things became awkward when the club he bought for £1 went into administration.
Up until a CVA was refused the issue was covered fairly factually, afterwards it became complete fantasy with Spence unable buy into the Liquidation Lie.
At long last the truth speaks its name. Anti Catholic bigotry….allowed to fester even in polite homes for a century and never tackled. What school did you go to at job interviews ? Blame the schools they said! ‘Civic Scotland’ has ignored this, and thus acquiesced for too long. https://t.co/0WKv2BbGKq

Oh and by the way if you upset them they still have ways of making sure you don’t pick up a microphone again with their connections. Their reach is long as is their memory and patience. If you think the morons on the ground are the only ones responsible think again.

Various phrases were used to deny Liquidation, the media and football authorities were equally guilty with Spence one of the very few dissenting voices.
In 2015 his self-respect forced him to step down from working for the Glasgow branch of the British Broadcasting Corporation.
Spence has his platform on Social Media, a regular column in the Dundee based Evening Telegraph and in August 2019 he was elected as rector of Dundee University.
