After five weeks as Assistant Manager of Notts County Maurice Ross has been forced to resign.

The former Rangers and Scotland defender is alleged to have made a racist comment about Enzio Boldewijn during Saturday’s match with Altrincham which was brought to the attention of the club CEO.

With a Social Media boycott carried out at the time of the incident it is hard to see how Ross finds his way back into coaching.

After his playing career had fizzled out the 40-year-old built up a decent reputation in coaching, starting off in the Faroe Isles before moving to Norway followed by joining Motherwell in January 2029. He left the Fir Park club when Graeme Alexander was appointed manager in January.

The Mirror reports:

Notts County assistant head coach Maurice Ross left the club on Monday after racially insulting one of his own players – during the club’s boycott of social media over discrimination.

The former Rangers and Wolves full-back, who had only arrived five weeks ago, was involved in the bust-up during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Altrincham.

The player, Dutch winger Enzio Boldewijn, was on the pitch playing when Ross is alleged to have told shocked substitutes: “He reminds me of one of those African players who is older than he says he is.”

Boldewijn was made aware of the comments by his angry dressing room colleagues after the match. The 28-year-old went immediately to captain Michael Doyle to make his feelings clear.

On Monday morning senior players at the club, led by Doyle, took their concerns to Chief Executive Jason Turner. Ross is understood to have made aware of the squad’s anger over his conduct by Turner and resigned.
