Celtic announce departure

Transfer

Celtic have confirmed the early departure of Shane Duffy to Brighton.

The move was widely reported yesterday with the player confirming the news on his Instagram account this morning.

Duffy has started just one match since the end of January with Stephen Welsh stepping in to form a partnership with Kris Ajer, when the Norwegian was injured Nir Bitton took his place.

Back in August Duffy was signed on a season long loan to a fanfare with the Irish internationalist expected to add steel in defence, replacing the departed Jozo Simunovic.

After scoring in his first two appearances it became apparent that Celtic’s style of play was quite a contrast to the backs-to-the-wall defending that Duffy had impressed in at Brighton.

With a year left on his Brighton contract Duffy could be on the move this summer, wherever he ends up he will have the consolation of a Scottish Cup winners medal from his difficult time at Celtic.
