Celtic are reported to be interested in Newcastle goalkeeper Freddie Woodman.
The 24-year-old has just completed two full seasons on loan at Swansea but doesn’t seem to have moved any closer to becoming Newcastle’s first choice keeper.
There isn’t likely to be anyone currently at Celtic to make any decision while Woodman will be looking to speak to a manager before making any decision on where to play next season.
The Newcastle based Chronicle reports:
Both Celtic and Southampton are in the mix for Newcastle United goalie Freddie Woodman this summer. The former England Under-21 international’s loan stint at Swansea City is over for now after the play-offs ended with a 2-0 defeat against Brentford.
However, while the Swans and Woodman are keen on a possible renewal for next season, he might get the opportunity of a new challenge with Premier League and Scottish Premiership interest bubbling away.
Woodman is yet to discuss whether there will be any point of returning to St James’ Park next season with Martin Dubravka and Karl Darlow battling for the number 1 spot and number three stopper Mark Gillespie also settled on Tyneside.
Prior to Swansea, Woodman had loan spells at Kilmarnock and Aberdeen.
During the season just finished Celtic rotated between Vasilis Barkas, Scott Bain and Conor Hazard in goals with none of those keepers emerging with any real credit.
All three are on long term contracts but most fans will be looking for the next manager to bring in a new keeper.
Fraser Forster made an outstanding contribution to the 2019/20 season while on loan from Southampton but last summer the club was unable to strike another deal to bring him back.
