Leigh Griffiths will have to wait into the close season to see if he has a future at Celtic.

The club had an option to add 12 months onto his contract but allowed the April 30 deadline to pass by meaning that he will be a free agent next month.

Celtic could offer him different terms, likely to be on a reduced salary but the striker and his agent are free to hold signing talks with any other club rather than wait on another offer from Celtic.

Nothing as yet, I think that this is going to be a conversation, because there hasn’t been any decision made in terms of the management and everything else that goes with it. Again this is one that we have to get through this week and then obviously the club will have to have a discussion with Leigh on that.

There’s nothing happening at the moment on that, there is not an update on it. It is the same with several issues around the playing squad. The players have been great with that, the players who are in that situation, they’ve been very professional in their work

Griffiths has only started one match since John Kennedy took over on an interim basis, against Falkirk in the Scottish Cup he was replaced by Albian Ajeti after an hour.

After showing some signs of form during December he has only managed two goals in 2021 and hasn’t played a full 90 minutes this season.

Griffiths is a contender for Steve Clarke’s squad for the European Championships which could provide him with the opportunity to impress and get a level of fitness for next season.
