The Daily Mail has come under fire from Celtic fans after illustrating the breakdown of the club’s bid to appoint Eddie Howe as manager with a broken crest.

That symbolism has been something of a rallying cry for fans after the Daily Record once used it after the club lost two matches during a pre-season tour of the United States.

A broken crest should be reserved for a club on the brink, facing administration or liquidation. When all hope has run out.

It seems like someone at the Daily Mail got carried away by the news that Howe wouldn’t be joining Celtic as manager. Other managers are available.

Since Howe was reported to have held talks with Dermot Desmond and Dom McKay at the start of April there has been an acceptance that the job was his.

That complacency has come back to bite with today’s news, Celtic may have to revert to Plan B, C or even D or E but life will go on with the crest remaining intact.
