Michael Gannon has revealed that John Kennedy will debrief the Celtic squad this week- while efforts are stepped up to finalise the appointment of Eddie Howe as manager.

A debriefing without mentioning the appointment of a new boss would be almost pointless.

Kennedy has been in charge on an Interim basis since the end of February with very little direct information coming out of the club about appointing a successor to Neil Lennon.

During an interview with Stephen Welsh in the Daily Record, Gannon explains:

Celtic are set to step up the appointment this week with Howe understood to be constructing his Hoops backroom team. There could still be a place for interim boss John Kennedy – who will conduct a debrief in the next few days before the squad breaks up for the summer.

Scott Brown will depart Celtic this week, Leigh Griffiths is out of contract with the loan deals for Jonjoe Kenny and Moi Elyounoussi effectively over.

Kennedy is hoping that six Celtic players will be included in Scotland’s European Championship squad which could see them on international duty into July.

Pre-season training is pencilled in to start in mid-June with the first competitive match of next season, a Champions League qualifier scheduled for July 20 or 21 with the return leg a week later.
