Tom English hasn’t yet credited Tommy Wright with winning two trophies for St Johnstone but he has blamed Eddie Howe for Bournemouth’s failure to win promotion to the EPL.
The chief sports writer at BBC Scotland seems to prefer the egg-shaped ball of rugby to soccer but is rarely slow on Social Media with self publicity regardless of how accurate he may be. Unusually for a BBC reporter he managed to include a spelling mistake in his tweet.
Picking on selective, unsubstantiated information he has delved into the second tier of English football in order to get a dig in at Celtic. Two of Bournemouth’s starting XI yesterday were signed after Howe left.
The full picture is that Howe rescued Bournemouth from relegation out of the Football League while in his twenties and set the club on an upward path.
After a stint at Burnley he returned to the south coast to take Bournemouth into the top flight for the first time in their history.
Five years in the EPL for a club with a stadium that holds 11,000 fans is no mean feat, it is an achievement that dozens of clubs would aspire to and rightly provide their manager with legendary status.
Whether he becomes Celtic manager or not Howe’s career has already reached far greater heights than the rugger expert that shares his opinions on soccer with BBC Scotland.
Bournemouth spent £140m putting together a team that’s just lost to Brentford in the play-offs. £140m! Eddie Howe signed all of those players.

Cue not queue. You have an issue with facts cleariy

I’m sure Tom was just as negative about Gerrard when Rangers brought him in, no managerial experience etc.

But hasn’t managed them for 1 minute this season. What’s your fairly tenuous and I suspect poorly thought out point?

You be lucky to find 140 Celtic fans that don’t want him as manager. 140!

Ah I see the Eddie Howe bashing has commenced. He also took them from 4th tier of English football to prem, kept them there for 4 years. But hey, don’t let that get in the way….

Is Howe responsible for this seasons failure?
— Rufus T. (@RufusT47647721) May 23, 2021
What’s your point Tom ? He hadn’t been the Manager for months?
— Vb (@Vgb67) May 23, 2021
Tom surely a bit of fact checking….. 3 of the team that started where not signed by him and he left 10 months ago so surely you can’t hold him accountable for their failure to get promoted? He got them to the PL from 4th tier and kept them in it for longer than most expected

Isn’t this just like a rangers fan putting a dampener on a positive for Scottish football, simply because it involves Celtic. His record for Bournemouth is exceptional and he’s universally seen as a very good young coach. And in case you hadn’t noticed, he wasn’t involved yesterday.
