Tom English hasn’t yet credited Tommy Wright with winning two trophies for St Johnstone but he has blamed Eddie Howe for Bournemouth’s failure to win promotion to the EPL.

The chief sports writer at BBC Scotland seems to prefer the egg-shaped ball of rugby to soccer but is rarely slow on Social Media with self publicity regardless of how accurate he may be. Unusually for a BBC reporter he managed to include a spelling mistake in his tweet.

Picking on selective, unsubstantiated information he has delved into the second tier of English football in order to get a dig in at Celtic. Two of Bournemouth’s starting XI yesterday were signed after Howe left.

The full picture is that Howe rescued Bournemouth from relegation out of the Football League while in his twenties and set the club on an upward path.

After a stint at Burnley he returned to the south coast to take Bournemouth into the top flight for the first time in their history.

Five years in the EPL for a club with a stadium that holds 11,000 fans is no mean feat, it is an achievement that dozens of clubs would aspire to and rightly provide their manager with legendary status.

Whether he becomes Celtic manager or not Howe’s career has already reached far greater heights than the rugger expert that shares his opinions on soccer with BBC Scotland.
