Celtic’s Board of Directors are under fire like never before tonight.
In the autumn fans protested outside the stadium, in December the club promised a managerial review in the new year. Neil Lennon was given a vote of confidence in mid-February, a week later he resigned after his second defeat of the season to Ross County.
As the season crashed into disarray, they could always redeem themselves to an extent with an ambitious new manager to help draw a line under the disastrous season instigated by Lennon.
This week the Board of Directors, and in particular CEO Peter Lawwell, have turned in a performance far far worse than back-to-back 4-1 defeats from Slavia Prague.
On Wednesday the club launched their Season Ticket renewal campaign with a reminder of their failure to appoint a manager,
Today things got worse, much, much worse. In mid-afternoon word leaked out that the assumed appointment of Eddie Howe was off with sketchy, unconvincing excuses to accompany the news.
Just before 6pm Celtic issued a statement. They wished Eddie well. Effectively three months has been wasted ‘for reasons outwith both his (Howe’s) and Celtic’s control.’
Whoever is now appointed can be in no doubt that at best they were second choice. If the club is in discussions with other candidates why not appoint one and leave the Howe mystery hanging in the air? Why, why, why?
Now the pressure is ranked up ten-fold for an equivalent level of appointment. Bringing in a Deila style project such as Ange Postecoglou or a bread-and-butter Scottish boss like Jack Ross or Steve Clarke will heap even more abuse on the club hierarchy.

A manager should have been signed and appointed months ago. This falls directly on the shoulders of the stewards of our club. They should all resign for their incompetence.

So whose fault is it then?

If the reasons are that his backroom staff can’t or won’t move to Scotland then why has it taken until two weeks after the season finished to discover this?
We look absolutely pathetic.

I wouldnt expect that to be right mate. The reasons will come out eventually.
I think Howe was playing us all along so he could land a job in England where he wanted to stay.— G (@GJS2010) May 28, 2021
