Conor McGregor has claimed that he has held talks about taking a stake in Celtic.

The short-lived attempt at creating a European Super League has put a focus on club ownership with pressure mounting for fans to be given more control or access to decision making.

Over the last decade McGregor has become the most famous Irishman in the world with 8.7m followers on Twitter, more than 10 times the number that Celtic have.

There is no suggestion that McGregor discussed the subject directly with Desmond who owns around 35% of the shares in Celtic. Fergus McCann brought the Irish businessman on board in 1995 with his stake strengthened as future share issues.

McGregor would certainly bring a greater profile to Celtic but his decision-making and business background outside of the boxing ring is at best unproven.

In the past McGregor has shared Social Media chats with Kieran Tierney, sharing an image with a Tierney 63 Celtic top.
