Leigh Griffiths makes big confession

Leigh Griffiths is preparing himself for life after Celtic.

In January 2014 Neil Lennon signed the striker from Wolves for around £1.5m but after 123 goals and seeing off a dozen rivals for a place it looks like the end of the road.

Celtic passed up on an option to extend his current deal by 12 months with one more month on the payroll for the former Hibs striker.

Today’s developments with Eddie Howe further clouds the issues but with Celtic due back for pre-season training in mid-June Griffiths is free to sign for any club that he wishes.

Picking up on an appearance on Go Radio, the Glasgow Live reports Griffiths saying:

The focus for me over the summer is to get as fit as I can and be ready for pre-season wherever that is and hit the ground running.

I need to wait on the new manager getting announced and see what plans he has for me. If he doesn’t see me in his plans then it’s off to pastures new.

If that’s the case I’ve had great years at Celtic and put myself into the history books in the top 20 goal-scorers.

Celtic’s next manager might want to offer Griffiths a new contract but as a free agent he can negotiate directly with Aberdeen, Hibs or whoever.

With Odsonne Edouard on international duty and Vakoun Bayo still involved with Toulouse it looks like Albian Ajeti will be the only striker reporting back for pre-season training at Lennoxtown.

Since the turn of the year Griffiths managed just two goals, during the season he never played a full 90 minutes.
