Tom Rogic will miss Australia’s summer World Cup qualifiers in order to fully recover from an ankle injury.

The midfielder had another injury interrupted season at Celtic, starting his last match of the season in the 6-0 win over Livingston on 10 April then coming off the bench for half an hour in the 1-1 draw away to Aberdeen 11 days later.

Since playing for Australia in the Asian Cup in January 2019 Rogic’s appearances and impact at Celtic has been on the decline with an offer accepted last summer from a club in Qatar.

Rogic decided to stay on at Celtic but there weren’t many special moments from the midfielder that contributed hugely during the first two seasons of Brendan Rodgers’ reign.

Explaining the omission of the Celtic man from the Australian squad, boss Graham Arnold told The Sun:

Tom Rogic has a minor ankle injury to deal with and the only time he can get properly fit is now. He’s hoping to use the close season to prepare for Celtic’s European games. It won’t be held against him in future.

Does Tom Rogic have role to play at Celtic next season?

Yes, the magic is still there, he's only 28

At 28 Rogic should be in his prime but the last three seasons have been a big disappointment. If a new manager can get him back to the form of 2016-2018 then he’ll have a highly skilled and effective goalscoring midfielder to work with.
