Maurice Ross is facing a ban from football with the FA launching an investigation into the incidents at Saturday’s Altrincham v Notts County match.

After the County CEO was made aware of comments from his side’s Assistant Manager Ross decided to resign after just five weeks into the job.

It is alleged that racist comments were used during the game by the former Rangers and Scotland defender.

Over four days at the weekend English clubs boycotted Social Media in protest of the racist abuse that routinely appears on certain platforms, having real life racism from someone in a management position is a major embarrassment to the authorities.

Unlike the SFA who tend to keep their decision making quiet the various media outlets in England will be looking for transparency on how the FA deal with in-house issues while they campaign for action from Twitter, Facebook and Instagram.

The Sun reports:

THE FA have launched an investigation into the comments which led to Maurice Ross’s sudden departure from Notts County, SunSport understands.

The former Motherwell assistant boss and Rangers and Scotland star admitted on Wednesday he had made an “ill-judged comment to a member of our playing staff which has led to my departure from the club.”

With virtually no profile in England it will be almost impossible for Ross to find another club prepared to give him any sort of job. A sanction from the FA would seriously impact his prospects of working elsewhere in football.

Ross will be getting a sympathetic interview on BBC Sportsound at 6pm tonight.
