Jack Hendry could be back in action for Oostende this weekend after initial fears that his season could be over due to injury.

The on-loan Celtic defender was the victim of a brutal challenge during the 6-2 win over Liege last weekend.

Mehdi Carcela-Gonzalez of Liege was red-carded but there were concerns for Hendry’s ankle while his shoulder was damaged as he hit the ground.

News that Hendry should be available for Sunday’s match away to Mechelen will be welcomed by Steve Clarke who brought the defender back into the Scotland squad for the March internationals.

It has been widely reported that Oostende have a £1.5m option to buy Hendry in their loan agreement with a decision to be taken by the end of this month.

Celtic signed Hendry from Dundee in January 2018 for a fee reported at between £1.2-1.5m but despite releasing Jozo Simunovic last summer there was no plans for Hendry with Shane Duffy brought in on loan to provide options alongside Kris Ajer and Chris Jullien.
