Ross Doohan’s unlikely Scottish Cup dream is over after Dundee United lost to Hibs today in the semi-final stage at Hampden.

The young keeper was on the bench today but Micky Mellon’s side were unable to repeat their quarter-final performance when they beat Aberdeen 3-0 at Pittodrie.

Goals in each half from Kevin Nisbet and Chris Doidge gave Hibs a comfortable lead that was never really under threat as the Edinburgh side won a semi-final at the third time of asking this season.

Doohan was called in on an emergency loan when Benji Siegrist was injured in the warm up to the Fourth Round tie at Forfar.

Deniz Mehmet took over as first choice keeper but could do little about the goals that settled today’s match although the goal from Doidge looked to be from an offside position missed by Bobby Madden and his assistant.

Earlier this season Doohan played five matches on loan for Ross County before being recalled by Celtic after 13 players had to self-isolate following the trip to Dubai.

Former Celtic youth team captain Jackson Irvine starred in central midfield for Hibs.
